Dev shops build the product exactly as you ask them to

That’s the problem. You don’t want builders who follow your spec. You want ones who sharpen it. Who say no. Who know what to cut. Otherwise you’re not outsourcing code—you’re outsourcing the blind leading the blind.

You hand off your vision.

They hand you back what you asked for.

But the spec was wrong.

You just didn’t know it yet.

That’s the trap.

Dev shops aren’t hired to think.

They’re hired to do.

They’ll build you a product that matches your notes.

But not your market.

Founders need more than execution.

They need filtration.

They need ruthless scoping.

They need someone who cares more about outcomes than opinions.

Dev shops will never tell you “this won’t work.”

That’s not their job.

Their job is to nod.

Their job is to deliver “done.”

But “done” is worthless if it doesn’t work.

“Done” without validation is just polished waste.

Don’t outsource decisions.

Own them.

Or work with people who sharpen them.

Otherwise, you’re not building—you’re delegating your downfall.
