Don’t confuse speed with blind acceleration at scale

Clarity at scale means knowing exactly what you want users to do—and why. Speed without direction is blind acceleration. Build funnels that enforce behaviour, not features that distract. Velocity is useless without control.

In startup circles, velocity is a badge of honour. Build fast. Ship features. Iterate weekly. But velocity without clarity is blind acceleration.

Picture a car on ice. You accelerate. You spin. You slide. You crash.

That’s what it feels like when you build without clarity at scale. You ship. You hope. You optimize chaos. You lose cohesion.

Clarity at scale demands:

  1. A single North Star metric.
  2. A compelling funnel that enforces the first behavioural win.
  3. Clear definitions of success at each step.

Ask your team:

  • What must a user do today?
  • How does that link to tomorrow’s retention?
  • Which metric will confirm we moved forward?

Once those answers are locked, velocity unlocks compounding gains.

Without them? You’re running fast in circles.

Ship features that help behaviour.

Measure what matters.

Train velocity on purpose—not the other way around.
